Vasectomy

"I elected to get a vasectomy because it was a natural realization of many of my beliefs. I have, for many years, held the belief that humans should not procreate. One need look no further than the clear, once wooded areas making way for cookie-cutter housing developments filled with empty-headed humans to see where I'm coming from. We can pat ourselves on the back for unbreathable air, genocide, extinguishment of flora & fauna, ozone layer depletion, toxic spills, and frenzied consumerism. Look into your neighbor's face and feel the absolute stupidity they cherish as their finest God-given gift. This is your race. And, given your careless, self-destructive way of living, you don't look so hot either."

— Joseph A. Gervasi

I was 28 years old when I had a vasectomy. At the time, it was considered unusual for a young, white, childless male to opt for the procedure in Virginia.
To begin with I didn't know much about it, so I researched the surgical procedure at the University Medical Center at Tucson during the summer of 1989. I learned that there were no known adverse effects of the procedure.

I discovered I was eligible for government funding of the surgery. Virginia received Federal allocation for this surgery. I applied for an application and was accepted. I was low on the list considering I didn't have a brood of children on welfare by several wives.

As a single, childless, unmarried 28 year old, I had a difficult time finding a doctor who would perform the procedure in the Bible Belt. I persisted and prevailed. I had to drive 50 miles to the nearest city.

Over a decade later, I have never regretted my choice. I have suffered no ill effects. I would not have the procedure reversed.

Negative Population Growth
I don't believe there are too many people in the world, just too many arrogant, greedy, insensitive, stupid ones in my vicinity (I have lived many places between Connecticut and Florida).

Considering the length of time it takes to raise a single child, and how much attention one needs, I believe one per couple is adequate.

Americans comprise about 5% of the world population and consume about a quarter of the world's energy resources. That's 290,000,000 people of 6,300,000,000 — six and a third billion. Infant mortality is highest in the US of any first world, industrialized, nation. America boasts more prisoners per capita than any nation on earth and in the history of man. Over one million men, women and children are incarcerated.

I believe if children's diet were controlled - less sugar and salt, compulsory periodic exercise and stretching throughout the day, and a maximum of 7 children per adult teacher, A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder) would disappear, and juvenile crime would plummet.

Deluded
People are innumerate. This is the mathematical equivalence of illiteracy. Here's an example: Most Americans do not perceive non-linear relationships. You can learn it in math class and then never apply it.

Analogy
If you were to fill a glass of water over a 24 hour span, by doubling the previous quantity of water added each hour, until the glass is exactly full. How full is the glass at the 23rd hour? ANSWER

The Earth is a Glass
In 1930 a state of the art world population census was taken. An accurate account determined there were 1 billion people alive at any moment in the word. At that time, it was calculated that the average number of earth's occupants was about ½ a Million since the last ice age—20,000 years ago. 1980 four and a half Billion people were estimated to be living. In 1997, 5.85 Billion people. 2004, 6.3 Billion. World Population 'Clock' (US Census Bureau). We all need two things to live: clean Air and clean Water. There is a finite amount of air and water on the planet. And we're already buying bottles of water.
