WINGS OF DESIRE

DISCOVERY:
I saw this at an art cinema playhouse. I saw it based on the strength of Wender's Paris, Texas and Kings of the Road.

OPENING SCENE:
Two angels overlook the city of Berlin. They convene from time to time to share notes on their observations of the human occupants.

PLOT:
Damiel grows tired of the life of an angel. Spying a radiant acrobat at the circus, he decides to trade in his wings for mortality.

There is little emphasis on plot, here as with many of Wenders works. The film is based on a poem and is itself poetic.

CINEMATIC SIMILARITIES:
Mixing Black and White with color was trendy from 1983 to 1987. The angels live in a black and white world, the mortals, color. Coppola used color in a predominantly black an white Rumble Fish. Woody Allan' Zelig uses both as well.

DRAMA:
There is nothing sentimental about this film. Nor is it deeply religious.

FINALE:
Was it worth it?
