BRIDGES

There are about twenty bridges that cross the Schuylkill within the city. The main ones, that can be crossed on foot, are (from south to north): South Street Bridge, Walnut, Chestnut, Market, JFK, Spring Garden, Girard Avenue. (There was never a bridge on Bainbridge) There are two pedestrian bridges in Philadelphia's historic Fairmount Park that cross Kelly Drive and the Schuylkill.photo of bridges crossing the Schuylkill

There are 4 bridges that span the Delaware from Philly. The southern most is Walt Whitman, Benjamin Franklin is in Center City, Betsy Ross and Tacony-Palmyra are in northeast Philly. The Benjamin Franklin Bridge has a pedestrian walkway. I have no idea how safe it is, crime-wise. It is probably not prudent to cross during cold winter days unless you are in training for arctic adventure. The Bridge is rusting to pieces and no one seems to care. Perhaps it is because Camden is such a dump. If you have ever been to Bridgeport Connecticut, you have an idea what Camden is like.
